Vernors

Vernors is by far my favorite soda ever! (although there are some cream soda's out there that run a close second) After moving away from the northeast... It was brought to my attention that the rest of the world did share the same awareness, and that Vernors may be a speciality of the northeast. For a couple of years, I scoured the island of Oahu high and low in search of this liquid delight, but to no avail and resorted to hauling heavy luggage home from the mainland containing a supply of said soda.
On the evening of Saturday, December 8, 2007, I found myself in Star Market on King Street buying some farewell leis. While standing in line waiting to make my purchase a couple with a small basket of groceries enters into line behind me, and out of the corner of my eye (which I thought for a moment might be deceiving me) I recognized a familiar green can and was immediately compelled to ask if that was indeed Vernors and found two delightful people from Michigan who shared in the love. (For any other Vernors lovers out there in the state of Hawaii... Star Market is the only place who has it) We had a moment. I thanked them, with joy adn gladness on my face, for making my life better that day and wished them a very merry Christmas. After which they informed me they had taken the last six pack. But that was ok, just knowing that it is available was enough. Just thinking about the Vernonrs drinking experience makes me smile... the first sip is the best part, the intense ginger flavor with a bit of bite, and the carbonation up the nose... the first sip always takes ya by surprise, you might even cough a little bit and let out a bit of an "ahhh" as your mouth recovers... what a rush!!!! I love it!!!

For anyone interested... read up on the history of Vernors....
