brown cows all around!

What a momentous day is this day, June 20, 2008! I hardly know where to begin...

Happy Aloha Friday!

Start off your day by sporting your best aloha wear (no shoes allowed, only slippahs) and you can then properly relax and enjoy your day at work knowing that it's Aloha Friday, no work 'till Monday! Gotta love a good Aloha Friday! TGIF Hawaiian style... check out this choice music video.

Happy First Day of Summer!

According to the calendar, summer is officially here. School is over. You can now officially wear shorts any time you want, and begin work on your summer tan. Our legs are of course pale from being in pants and indoors for many months, but how else can you get that summer glow and not sport the short? It is the beginning of the time of year (if you are on the mainland) when kids are cruising till late into the wee hours of the evening catching lighting bugs and playing tag because the days are getting longer and longer. It is the time when we used to tear through the neighborhoods and all over town on our Huffy's. In the summer, everywhere you go is via bike. Granted mine wasn't quite as classic as the one pictured, but I fancied my Huffy Sweet Style with its pink tires as pretty rad back in the day.

Happy Ice Cream Soda Day!

Yes, it's true... June 20th is officially Ice Cream Soda Day. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself. Who doesn't love a good root beer float? In our house we called them brown cows, and annoucement of the treat was always followed by squeals of delight, only silenced by our consumption of the foamy goodness sure to be spread all over our tiny tot faces :)

While this was not part of my child hood per say... I had the privelege of experiencing an old school soda fountain at it's best during my high school years. Saywell's Drug Store in downtown Hudson, Ohio was a just a few blocks away from our campus. A favorite spot after a long hard practice, or on a warm afternoon when you had a free period from school. It was almost unreal how you could almost feel like you had taken a step back in time when you stepped through the door. When I look at the photo below taken in 1912 it looks the same as I remember, except my memories are in color... The same swivel stools, the same fountain drinks, made the same way. The phone booth was perhaps my favorite. Tragically Saywell's closed it's door in 2005. But I am glad to had the opportunity of knowing such a treasure.

IWhat three wonderful things to recognize, and to have them all coincide on the very same day... that is really reason to celebrate. So you're looking fly in your aloha threads, why not go for a cruise on two wheels (since i don't have a bike, the moped will have to do), and brown cows for everyone!!!

It just makes me smile :)

You don't need to apologize. You have definitely surpassed us in your blogging abilities. Summer time is great. We try to make the most of it around here no matter how hot it gets. We will mark our calendars for root beer float day next year.
